The purpose of this project is to rethink about the public space as an integral part of Central Madrid.
Replacing a large administration building that obstructs the way of walkers, a new public building appears. It is an Urban Culture Centre, with residence and co-working areas. Between this program and the public space it must be a close connection. All this is translated into a Building-Plaza: a huge free surface that colonizes the ground floor of the new building, able to use it for temporary exhibitions or any other public event when necessary.
Two different intersecting volumes and another separated small building reorganize the new Plaza. The main one, a longitudinal transparent block opened to the exterior, which contains the public program (library) and intersected by another opaque that seems to float which contains the domestic and the private one. The small building, used for workshops, closing the other side of the Plaza.
